Van was born on October 17th, 1945 in Peoria, Illinois. Supposedly being the great grandson of a vampire hunter, he became obsessed with them. In addition to vampires, he was also obsessed with other monsters and joined various groups focused around discussing and documenting evidence of their existence. Due to his obsession and beliefs, he was institutionalized three times throughout his life.
