Little is known of Alex's past. He was childhood friends with Jeff Stinson, and the two would get into skiing together. However, Alex wished to become a pro-skier and in turn, spent less time with Jeff. One weekend at a remote ski resort known as Snow Peak, Jeff and Alex met up again. But, Jeff had just lost his girlfriend to another skier named Cory. After confronting Cory and nearly killing him, Jeff talked to Alex asking what he should do. Despite Alex's pleas not to go out in the snowstorm, Jeff went skiing in order to get his mind off things, but ended up crashing and dying out in the cold. Alex went out to look for Jeff, and ended up suffering a career ending injury when he fell off a cliff and twisted his leg. Having it amputated and replaced with a fake one, Jeff could no longer ski and lost his parents' respect. Blaming everything on Cory and his group of friends, he eventually lured them back to the resort intending to murder them all.
